Volunteering
Skate Canada is a very successful national organization and one of the reasons for this is the involvement of thousands of volunteers that help to keep things running. Some individuals have been volunteering for more than 50 years! There are many types of volunteer positions available and these can range from playing music at a club skating session to making policy at the national board level. Each year Skate Canada pays tribute to its volunteers at its annual meeting and awards are presented to those whose contributions have been recognized by their peers.
As a non-profit organization, Connaught Skating Club is run and managed by a group of volunteers: the CSC board and skaters' parents. The volunteer work is essential to the quality and success of our club, and to your child's experience here. Prior experience is not required. Volunteering in the Club is a great opportunity to learn about the sport of figure skating and how the club runs, as well as a fun way to meet other Club members and have a good time while helping out.
Families who purchase 5 or more sessions per week, or 3 or more days per week, are required to submit a Volunteer form and cheque when registering for the Fall, winter &/or Spring sessions in the current skating year (Sept 11-Aug 12), and to indicate which option they are choosing: Volunteer Deposit or Donation. Those who choose the volunteer option must complete a minimum of 30 hours of volunteering.
Notification will be sent out by email & posted on the website volunteer page & rink roller board when volunteers are needed. Tasks will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure they provide a valid email address & fulfill the minimum 30 hours requirement if they would like their cheque returned, and to notify the Volunteer Coordinator when they have completed tasks.
Thank you for volunteering. Your time and support make a HUGE difference in how well the club runs. We appreciate your time and talents.
The volunteer coordinator is Sofia Tang sofiatang@hotmail.com

Hi,
There are many volunteer opportunities, I suggest you create an account as most volunteer opportunities will be posted in "sign up genius". If you want to help e-mail me sofiatang@hotmail.com or come talk to me, I'm at the rink everyday.
Thank you,

Dear Members,
As we gear up for the Summer season, the need for volunteer assistance is upon us.
One project of improvement this Summer is the music playing process. The music playing process has the potential to greatly benefit all of the athletes. We have improved the guidelines of how this operates and look forward to having these in action at rink side.
I understand that your minimum volunteer hours per year are 30 and that some of you have already completed these. I want to thank all of you for your time donated to the club so far this year!
Regardless of hours accumulated, I am asking each of you to sign up for at least 1 hour of music playing per week this Summer. The coaches and skaters will be truly grateful to have each of you helping keep the sessions flowing and making a solo opportunity available for every child.
Sofia Tang will be your coordinator for the music playing. She will be organizing the sessions and doing some simple training.
Again, please see if you can make some time this Summer to help with this important aspect of our training environment.
Thank you so much,
Keegan Murphy
Director of Skating Programs
